1. Contest Entry

For each of the categories listed below, prizes will be awarded separately to the following groups:
- Middle school and below
- High school and above

Category 1:
Japan Heritage Awaji Island Award
(preparation of Regional Revitalization Minister’s Award currently in progress)
Themes:
(General Award)
Create a work which is focused on the Japanese heritage location, Awaji Island and its associated themes including the ‘Legend of Kuni-umi (from the Kojiki)’ ‘Miketsukuni,’ ‘Ama,’ among others.

(Hajimari no Shima Award)
Create a work which is focused on the Awaji Island-themed RPG game Hajimari no Shima (soon to be released this year by the Japan Heritage Awaji Island Committee).

Accepted Genres:
Single Illustrations, Single Cell Manga, Four Cell Manga (about 5 pages), Story Manga (4-24 pages srecommended), Kamishibai (with drawing on front side, text on back side; 4-12 pages recommended), and others accepted.

Category 2:
Kojiki Nihonshoki Manyoshu Award
Themes:
Create a work which is focused on regional traditions, stories, legends, and themes related to the ancient Japanese texts Kojiki, Nihonshoki, and Manyoshu.

Accepted Genres:
Single Illustrations, Single Cell Manga, Four Cell Manga (about 5 pages), Story Manga (4-24 pages recommended), Kamishibai (with drawing on front side, text on back side; 4-12 pages recommended), and others accepted.

(Entries may be submitted to more than one category. Collaboration submissions will be accepted, but must be unpublished original works.)

  • This contest is open to both professional and amateur-level applicants.
  • This contest is open to applicants of any nationality or age.

6. Submission Standards

1. For All Submissions
➀ Title and text should be in Japanese or English. For works submitted in English, a Japanese translation shall be carried out by the contest sponsor if it is deemed necessary.
➁ The entry work can be submitted in either full color or monochrome.
➂ Page number should be listed at the bottom of each page.

2. For Handwritten Submissions
➀ The submission content should be 180mm x 270mm in size, however there are no restrictions regarding margin or frame width.
➁ Entry works handwritten on both sides of each page cannot be accepted.
➂ The text and title of the entry work should be clearly legible.

3. For Digital Submissions
➀ Digital entries must be submitted in either JPEG or PNG format. *Digital entries should be submitted with 600dpi resolution in monochrome, or 350dpi resolution in full color.
➁ All fonts are acceptable.

7. Submission Procedures
  • Entry works should be submitted in one piece (one file for digital submissions).
  • For physical entries, please submit a full-sized copy.
  • For digital entries, please submit the file on a CD-R or DVD-R.
  • Please attach an explanation of any works, stories, or themes which influenced or are referenced by the submitted entry.
8. Precautions & Important Notes
  • For the winning entry, an original draft may be requested
    (for digital entries, a draft in PSD or EPS format (with the title and text placed on a separate layer)).
  • The submitted copy, CD-R, or DVD-R (including any translation as mentioned in 5. Standards for Entry Works) will not be returned, and will be destroyed after it has been judged.
  • Competition entries should not infringe upon any authorship right such as copyright laws or right to use by a third-party. Furthermore, if an instance of plagiarism or illegal copying is discovered or claimed by a third-party during submission, the competition applicant shall bear all responsibility.
  • Copyright shall belong to the author of the submitted work. However, the author will be asked in advance for agreement to the sponsor’s right to use or publish the submitted work (including publishing by electronic means) without compensation. Furthermore, duration of the sponsor’s right to use will, in principle, be determined via discussion with the author of the submission.
9. Selection of Winning Entries

Winning entries will be chosen by the National Kuni-umi Manga World Cup Judging Committee
(henceforth referred to as judging committee).

10. Competition Awards

For each of the categories below, a Grand Prize will be given to the most outstanding submission, along with an Outstanding Prize and Honorable Prize provided to other submissions which are judged to be of excellent and superior quality.

I. Japan Heritage Awaji Island Award
1. General Award
(1) Grand Prize
➀ Japan Heritage Awaji Island Award Grand Prize: Trophy, honorary certificate, ¥500,000

(2) Outstanding Prize
➀Middle School and below (2 awards): honorary certificate, ¥10,000 gift certificate
➁High School and above (2 awards): honorary certificate, ¥50,000

(3) Honorable Prize
➀ Middle School and below (2 awards): honorary certificate, ¥5,000 gift certificate
➁ High School and above (2 awards): honorary certificate, ¥30,000

2. “Hajimari no Shima” Award
(1) Outstanding Prize
➀ Middle School and below (1 award): honorary certificate, ¥10,000 gift certificate
➁ High School and above (1 award): honorary certificate, ¥50,000

(2) Honorable Prize
➀ Middle School and below (1 award): honorary certificate, ¥5,000 gift certificate
➁ High School and above (1 award): honorary certificate, ¥30,000

II. Kojiki Nihonshoki Manyoshu Award
(1) Kojiki Nihonshoki Manyoshu Award Grand Prize (1 award): trophy, honorary certificate, ¥200,000

(2) Outstanding Prize
➀ Middle School and below (1 award): honorary certificate, ¥10,000 gift certificate
➁ High School and above (1 award): honorary certificate, ¥50,000

(3) Honorable Prize
➀ Middle School and below (1 award): honorary certificate, ¥5,000 gift certificate ➁ High School and above (1 award): honorary certificate, ¥30,000

11. Announcement of Winning Submissions

Winning submissions will be announced in March 2020.

12. Award Ceremony

An award ceremony will be held during March 2020 (date subject to change, refer to the official homepage for further announcement) on Awaji Island (at Anime Park Nijigen no Mori, located in Hyogo Prefectural Awajishima Park). All award recipients will be cordially invited to Awaji Island to participate in the ceremony.
